Shaw Wallace

Shaw Wallace & Company Limited is a liquor manufacturer in India, headquartered in the Wallace House in Kolkata. It was established in year 1886.[1]

It is involved in the production and sales of Indian Made Foreign Liquor. The two biggest brands of SWC are Royal Challenge Whisky and Director's Special Whisky.

Shaw Wallace's spirits division was acquired by United Spirits, a part of United Breweries, in mid-2005 for around Rs.1300 crore and its Breweries and beer business was acquired by SABMiller. Hence Royal Challenge Whisky is with United Spirits and Royal Challenge beer, which is mainly sold in the state of Andhra Pradesh, is with SABMiller.

Before 1999, SWC was into diversified businesses, which it shed as part of a restructuring plan. Most notable were the sale of Calcutta Chemicals and Detergents India Ltd to Henkel-SPIC

In India, distribution of the Sega Mega Drive was handled by Shaw Wallace, with each product sold for 18,000 Indian rupees.[2] Sega entered the partnership in the northern hemisphere spring of 1995 because it wanted to circumvent an 80% import tariff.[3]
